Shyam Krishna Pathak

Shyam Krishna Pathak is the youngest of the three Pathak brothers who founded Trekking Team in 1991, and he is the reason a Nepali family company in Gongabu has spent three decades taking German, Austrian and Swiss clients into the Himalaya.

He speaks fluent German and he leads the German-speaking side of the business himself. That is not a translated brochure and a booking form. It means correspondence, quotations, pre-departure briefings and the calls that happen when something goes wrong all take place in German, with the person who owns the company rather than a sales agent working from a script. For clients from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, that removes the layer where most misunderstandings in this industry actually occur.

It has also shaped what we are good at. German-speaking trekkers tend to ask precise questions about elevation profiles, daily distances, insurance wording and what exactly is included, and answering those properly for thirty years is why our itineraries carry the detail they do. A lot of what is now standard across our whole catalogue started as an answer to a question from a client in Munich or Zurich.
