1991

Three brothers open an office in Kathmandu

Hari Dev, Ram Sharan and Shyam Krishna Pathak founded Trekking Team in 1991, when Nepal had a handful of registered operators, bookings arrived by post and telex, and a trekking company was largely a matter of who your guides were. Hari Dev had been working in Thamel since he was sixteen. The company registered with TAAN as member 1106 and has been family-owned ever since, with no outside investment at any point.

1993

One of the first businesses in Nepal to go online

Trekking Team put itself on the web in 1993, which made it one of the first businesses in the country with a website at all. Enquiries that had taken three weeks by post started arriving the same day. It set a pattern the company has kept: adopt the thing that lets a Kathmandu family firm speak directly to a client in Munich or Melbourne, without a middleman taking the margin and the relationship.

2011

Medical camps in the Panzang Valley

The partnership with Amici del Dolpo began in 2011, running medical camps in the Panzang Valley of upper Dolpo, one of the most remote inhabited places in Nepal and several days' walk from the nearest road. It still runs. It is not a marketing programme and it does not appear in any of our itineraries; it is simply something the company has kept doing for fifteen years.

Thirty-five years, ten thousand trekkers

Trekking Team passed thirty-five years in operation having guided more than ten thousand people through Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan, with over 630 TripAdvisor reviews behind it and registrations with TAAN, the Nepal Tourism Board, the Nepal Mountaineering Association, KEEP and PPGI. Same family, same office in Gongabu, and a number of the guides and porters have been with us for twenty years.
