Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,550 m)
An early start north out of the valley on the Pasang Lhamu Highway, climbing to Kalikasthan and Dhunche, the district headquarters where park permits are checked, then descending to Syabrubesi on the Bhote Koshi.
The road follows the Trishuli for much of the way and was damaged in several places by the August 2026 flood. Depending on repair progress your journey may involve a longer route or a short walking section around a damaged stretch; your guide will have the current position. On a clear morning Ganesh Himal is visible from the ridge above Kalikasthan.
Drive: 7 to 8 hours.

Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,380 m)
Across the Bhote Koshi and up the Langtang Khola into dense forest of oak, maple and bamboo. The trail climbs steadily with the river always audible below, passing Bamboo and Rimche.
This stretch is prime habitat for langur monkeys, which you will almost certainly see, and red panda, which you almost certainly will not. Lama Hotel is not a village but a cluster of lodges in a forest clearing.
Distance: 11 km. Walking: 6 hours. Altitude gain: 830 m.

Trek from Lama Hotel to Mundu (3,543 m) via Langtang Village
The forest thins and the valley opens. At Ghodatabela the park checkpoint sits on a shelf with the first proper mountain views of the trek.
Above it you reach the site of old Langtang village. In April 2015 an earthquake-triggered avalanche and air blast buried the entire village, killing more than 300 people. The new village is rebuilt slightly further up the valley. There is a memorial with names on it, and most groups stop there quietly for a few minutes.
Beyond the village the trail continues through yak pasture to Mundu, a small settlement half an hour short of Kyanjin.
Distance: 14 km. Walking: 6 hours. Altitude gain: 1,163 m.

Trek from Mundu to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m)
A short morning walk through yak pastures and past long mani walls, with the valley wide open and Langtang Lirung rising 3,000 m directly above on the north side.
Kyanjin Gompa is the last settlement, a small collection of lodges around an old monastery, with a cheese factory established with Swiss help in the 1950s that still makes yak cheese worth carrying home. The afternoon is free for the short climb to Kyanjin Ri (4,773 m) if you are feeling strong, which is good preparation for tomorrow.
Distance: 4 km. Walking: 3 hours. Altitude gain: 327 m.

Acclimatisation Day: Tserko Ri (4,984 m)
The high point of the trek. A pre-dawn start for the steep climb up the ridge east of Kyanjin, gaining 1,100 m in about four hours on a rough but non-technical trail.
From the top the view is complete: Langtang Lirung, Langtang II, Kimshung, Yala Peak, Naya Kanga and the Langshisha Kharka glacier, with Shishapangma in Tibet visible over the border ridge on a clear morning. It is genuinely one of the great viewpoints in Nepal and far less crowded than its equivalents in Khumbu.
Back down to Kyanjin by early afternoon.
Distance: 10 km round trip. Walking: 6 to 7 hours. Altitude: up 1,114 m and back down.

Trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel (2,380 m)
A long descent, retracing the valley through Mundu, the Langtang village site and Ghodatabela, dropping back into the forest. Going down is faster but hard on the knees over this distance, and poles are worth using.
Distance: 18 km. Walking: 6 to 7 hours. Altitude loss: 1,490 m.

The last walking day, back down through the bamboo and oak forest alongside the Langtang Khola to the river junction and into Syabrubesi. Warm, green and noticeably thicker air.
The evening is the crew dinner, and there are hot showers.
Distance: 11 km. Walking: 5 to 6 hours. Altitude loss: 830 m.
